How to Make Your Own 3D Glasses?

Making your own 3D glasses is so easy to do that you can make them up just before a movie. Here are two methods for producing effective 3D glasses at home easily.

Converting a pair of sunglasses

• Find a pair of plastic sunglasses that fit you well, and pop out the plastic lenses.

ㅤ

• Use the lenses as a stencil to draw the correct shape onto the transparency sheet, cellophane, or acetate.

ㅤ

• Colour the sheet with red and blue markers. If you didn't use red or blue coloured plastic sheets, you'll need to colour each lens. Make the left lens red, and the right one blue.

• Place the coloured lenses back into the frames. Red goes on the LEFT, and blue goes on the RIGHT.

ㅤ

• See if they fir well. Make any adjustments if required. Then start watching your 3D movie.

Paper version

• Download and print a copy of the PDF file from the link: http://stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov/img/glasses.pdf. Cut out each piece, including the eyeholes. Stick the sides to the centre to form a pair of glasses. This forms a stencil.

ㅤ

• Trace around the stencil onto a sturdy poster board. Cut out the glasses. Cut the eyeholes as well.

ㅤ

• Cut out lenses from the sheets of blue and red acetate. In case you have plane acetate or cellophane, colour the cut-out of lenses with red and blue marker (one red, one blue lens). Make sure to cut the acetate pieces a little larger than the opening for the eyes.

ㅤ

• Tape the lenses over the eyeholes. Red goes on the LEFT, and blue goes on the RIGHT. Do not get tape over parts of the acetate visible through the eyehole.

ㅤ

• Fit the glasses. Make any necessary adjustments, and enjoy your 3D movie.
